HERITAGE CAL

During September in South Africa, we celebrate Heritage month to bring our many unique cultures together in our beloved country. It was during this month in 2020 that the seeds of my inspiration gradually took root. It was the plethora of colours and patterns that embody these cultures that inspired me to visualise patterns for myself using the mosaic crochet technique. Hence, my decision to name the pattern ‘Heritage’. This pattern was released as a CAL during August and September of 2021. Even though the pattern is designed to make a lap throw / small blanket, it is versatile and can be used to create a cushion cover, placemat or even a table runner.

This pattern uses the one row/overlay mosaic crochet technique. You will work with one row at a time from right to left and after each row you will break the yarn and start with a new colour on the right side again.

Video and photo tutorials are included in the pattern

Yarn used
Nurturing Fibres, Eco-Fusion (50% bamboo, 50% cotton)
Weight: Light double knit
1 ball = 50g /125m

Body
Colour A total – 365g
Colour B total – 335g

If done in more than 2 colours you will need the following approximate amount of yarn per shape:
½ diamond ± 53g
Full diamond ±107g
Colour splash within full diamond ±7g

Border
Total of ±200g
Foundation slip stitch row - ±7g
Each DC row is ±22g
Closing slip stitch row ±12g

Hook size
3.75mm for body
3.5mm for border

Final project size
Without the border - 102cm x 73cm
With the border - 106cm x 76cm

Please note that there are no refunds or exchanges on patterns.

Yarn used
MoYa 100% Double Knit Cotton
135m / 50g

Total Yarn usage
Colour A total – 280g
Colour B total – 530g

Hook size
4mm for body
3.5mm for border

Final project size (after wet blocking
With the border - 115cm x 90cm

Any type of yarn can be used to complete your project. You may even use some leftover from your own yarn stash. I would suggest using the recommended hook size for your yarn. A heavier yarn might result in a bigger blanket though. You can adjust the pattern repeat accordingly to suit your need.
